Acuarela Swimwear “live more… wear less” was a perfect fit for our Baja Baby Summer ’14 photo shoot. Based down in Baja, owner and designer Linzy, hand makes each piece with love. Perfectly designed for comfort and play. Not only is she a beach babe, with a zest for living a full life, she is also from North Vancouver, BC. She has since replanted herself down in the Baja, where she is living her dream.
I have yet to meet this beautiful soul in person but she shared some words with me, that will inspire you to find what makes you shine!
What brought you from Vancouver to Baja?
My mum when I was 18. We went every year for a month to camp on the beach since then. I decided to move there permanently when I was 24 ( 6 years ago).
When and why did you start making bikinis?
I created Acuarela Swimwear after moving to Baja. I originally moved there to surf, but when the swell died, I have tons of spare time. i began to teach myself how to sew; determined to make bikinis that stayed on in the surf and that looked good at the same time. It started as a hobby; making bikinis for my friends and myself. But shortly after, I started making custom suits and selling my pieces at the local markets. Three years later, I opened my own store in San Jose Del Cabo, where I worked along side a team of talented local seamstresses and designers. My bikinis are now available online and made to order using your own personal measurements. (amazing!)
What inspires you?
Life. I acknowledge the privilege of being alive at this moment and from that I am inspired to make the most of it. Dropping everything and moving to Mexico to surf, was a decision made by my heart and motivated by the life I always wanted. Acuarela is a result of me moving to Mexico to surf. It is everything I am inspired by. It is simply, my life.

Describe Baja in 3 words.

Why collaborate with karenjess?
I feel we share the same passion for the sea and what it means to create pieces inspired by it. We are both handmade, unique, small business, which both began in the same beautiful North Vancouver. Not to mention, I would wear and am in love with all of the karenjess pieces.
